Krolevets', Krolevets'kyi district

Krolevets - regional city located in northern Ukraine, on the left bank of the river Retiers. Over the years collected a lot of landmarks and attractions raised many talented people who brought fame to the city for its achievements.

City history

The first mention of Krolevets appeared in 1601, when the city was founded, the first time in the annals - from 1638. Archaeological excavations indicate that before in this area was a settlement Zartyj that existed from 1160. In Krolevets land with more than 30 monuments, which included parking and the settlement of the Bronze and Iron period, Neolithic and Kievan Rus.

Development of the city went up rapidly due to its location at the crossroads of trade routes from Kyiv to Moscow. In 1618, the settlement became part of Poland, in 1632 he was granted the status of county town. Later, in 1644, King Władysław IV he was granted Magdeburg Law.

After the National Liberation War in 1686 Krolevets went to Russia.

In 1730, the city became the center Krolevets protopopiyi. Important role played by the Cross Fair, which gathered merchants from all over Europe: Poland, Prussia, and Russia. By the end of the 18th century gradually began to lose commercial value.

In June 1782 the city established its own emblem, elements of which shows the glory and developed trade. This year Krolevec received the status of district center.

Origin city name

Name Krolevets includes part of the Polish word "Krol", which means "king." According to legend, it was founded and the Polish king, who came to the area to hunt wild. Then again, in the early 17th century, these areas were in the possession of Poland. During the hunt, the king pledges wild boar but saved the Polish owner of the local guard. In gratitude at the same place he founded Krolevets.

  • At certain periods of the city visited three monarchs of the Commonwealth and Russia: King John II Casimir Vasa in 1664, Empress Elizabeth in 1744 and Emperor Nicholas I in 1840.
  • For two years, from 1926 to 1928 years of Soviet rule in hiding Russian writer Sergei Nilus - author of the bogus "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion."
  • Krolevec often called the city of weavers. According to some sources, these parts found weaving tools used in 5-7 centuries. Traditions are preserved to this day. In the Museum Krolevets weaving collected more than 700 exhibits.
