The Andriy Sheptyts'kyi National Museum
The largest museum in Lviv, one of many major museums and Ukraine - Andriy Sheptytsky National Museum certainly deserves attention and careful study. He has a large collection of objects of Ukrainian art.
Life history and development of the museum
The museum was founded by Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky hrekokatolytskym the early 20th century. Today the museum bearing his name. The main purpose of the museum - the development of Ukrainian national culture, but at first it was created as a church museum.
Sheptitsky brought a present about 10 thousand of art objects that made up the bulk of the museum. In addition, he held it at his own expense. Bought his villa on the street Dragomanov was chosen to house the exhibition.
The museum opened to visitors 13 December 1913. Already in 1930 the main collection contained more than 80 thousand exhibits. To date, the number of samples of Fine Arts is near to 150 thousand. Museum preserves:
- the largest in Ukraine collection of Ukrainian icons 14-18 centuries,
- the largest collection of medieval Ukrainian folk art. Among them, sculpture, prints, manuscripts, printed books, bones, ceramics,
- paintings of famous Ukrainian artists - Ivan Trush, Cornelius Ustyyanovych, Elena Kulchytska and others - one of the most valuable works that can be seen in the museum. Top of this collection completes series of original works of Taras Shevchenko. Also on exhibition shows works by contemporary artists of Lviv.
In addition to regular tracks, where most seem mind the best exhibits, there are temporary exhibitions.

Museum named after Andrey Sheptytsky has two buildings, one of which is on the street Dragomanov, 42 , and the second main body - on Liberty Avenue, 20, where to get much easier. Receives visitors from 10 am to 18 pm, except Mondays. The Museum is impossible to miss, its rich architecture immediately attracts the attention of tourists.
