Adam Mickiewicz Monument in Lviv

Monument to the famous Polish poet and leader of the national liberation movement of the Adam Mickiewicz is set in the eponymous square in the heart of Lviv . This area originally shared Shevchenko Avenue and Liberty Avenue. The total height of the monument is 21 m, and the figure of the poet - 3.3 meters. That column, which was to exalt the "king of the spirit", allowed Lviv sculptor Anton Popel win the contest sketches in 1898. Overall, the competition was attended by 23 of the draft. The monument itself was opened in 1904. Above the great poet hovers angel with lyre. Lviv citizens believe that their Miscavige looks much more original than the poet`s monument in Krakow and Warsaw.
