Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Monument

Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Monument

In the city of Khmelnyts’kyi there is a monument to the eminent Ukrainian hetman Bohdan Khmelnitsky. The monument was erected in honour of the great general, great strategist and tactician, who had led a national uprising of the Ukrainian people against Polish oppression.

The monument to Bohdan Khmelnyts’kyi was opened September 28, 1993 to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the city founding. Under the project of the sculptor Valentine Borysenko and the architect Michael Kopyla the monument to hetman was placed at the intersection of Kamenets’ka and Gagarina Streets. You’ll see Bohdan Khmelnyts’kyi on the horseback holding the reins in his left hand, and the mace in his right hand raising this symbol of power high in the air. The monument is made of bronze and is located on the trapezoidal pedestal.

Equestrian monument dedicated to Bohdan Khmelnyts’kyi is a symbol of the city.
