Regional Landscape Park

The regional landscape park “Granite-steppe lands of Buh” is a fabulous place of unique nature located in the north-west of Mykolaiv region, Ukraine. It is a rocky area in the middle of steppe, where you can feel a lively chill of the Pivdennyi Buh River. Harmonious combination of granite rocks, blue waters and fresh verdure makes this place unique. It’s worth to see this beautiful picturesque view – rocky banks of the Pivdennyi Buh, its rapids and water jet with islands, numerous waterfalls and grottos. The Turks called the river Pivdennyi Buh “Ak-Su” meaning “white water”. River bed is studded with boulders, between which the water rushes in foaming eddies forming what is called “whitewater”. Once you have visited this place, you’ll feel well, because bathing in such water is very useful for health and longevity. Flowing water splashes over and around the rocks and causes forming small drops. The drop’s speed is very high so they ionize one about other acquiring healing properties.  

This park is probably best known for one of the best in Europe water slalom route located on its territory. Ukrainian canoe and kayak competitions take place there.

The park “Granite-steppe lands of Buh” can rightly be called a unique symphony of colours. This is a perfect place for those who like flowers and herbs. Unique rocky steppes can be noted by you in ravines, on rocky terraces. You’ll see a glory of different flowers, which bloom depending on the season. Saffron with its gentle white-pink petals can be seen in March. Basket-of-gold together with Pheasant’s Eye bloom in bright yellow colours reminding flashes of gold. Lily-of-the-valley rings its gentle bells and tender white-pink petals of wild roses please the eye. The combination of their delicate flavour and honey fragrance of flowering maple create unique atmosphere. Purple irises stand out against a background of this colourful palette, bright-yellow tulips and blue violas complete this fabulous beauty. Red-blue flax covers the ground like a blanket. You might feel fragrance of salvia and thymus in the air. Steppe is specially beautiful in October – slopes are covered with a colourful lace of groves and creeping oaks create fancy shapes. Abeles, willows and dark alders steep their leaves into blue waters – incredibly beautiful!

The park “Granite-steppe lands of Buh” is also known by the fact a snake was found on its territory, which is thought to be Aesculapius’ snake. According to the legend, long ago there was a god-doctor Aesculapius. He was famous due to the fact he used venom to heal, and he always carried his snake with. Scientists have proven this snake had existed, but died many years ago.

Picturesque views of the regional landscape park “Granite-steppe lands of Buh” and its fabulous history are very famous and have become a favourite place of many tourists.
