Castle Kuris

In southern Ukraine in the Odessa region is the small village of Petrovka. Tiligul estuary near this village, you can visit the manor Kurisovyh and see the ruins of the once majestic palace, which even in a dilapidated condition affects travelers with its monumentality. 

Now Kurisovyh Palace - an architectural monument of national importance, and the once blossoming unique building patrimony Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Onufrievich Kuris. The estate was built at once. In the 1810-1820-ies it was designed the east wing, and later - in 1891-1892-ies - the main part of the building. Palace being completed after the death of its first owner, an outstanding Russian-Polish architect Nicholas Roerich Tolvinsky. 

Architectural composition of the palace ensemble embodies the Moorish style with Gothic elements. This type of structure was in sharp contrast with other ancient buildings that were built at that time in Ukraine. The building blocks of the palace served as a stone-Kouris coquina, which was both a backdrop for external walls. Form structure also differs sharply from the classic style, since it lacks symmetry. In addition, the palace Kurisovyh as if divided into smaller components that differ in the number of floors. It was envisaged several small terraces and one common semicircular shape. On it you can get by climbing a winding staircase. 

Moorish style architecture provides a variety of forms of windows, what you are able to clearly see. Then there are keeled, and bow-and rectangular, and the pointed shape. The most striking part of the old building, and the entire palace Kurisovyh is an octagonal tower that resembles a minaret. It rises high above the structure that allows itself to observe from afar estate. In the new part of the building was provided a large hall for receptions, balls and celebrations of various celebrations. Its striking feature was that the main light received through the roof, in the olden days in summer set aquarium. Ceiling supported by columns with Corinthian columns decorated with primitive paintings alfreynymi. It spoke about the birth of Romanticism in the architectural style of the buildings of the 19th century Ukraine. On both sides of the palace was decorated Kurisovyh storeyed arcades.
