The Monument to Marusia Churai
Monument to Marusia Churai in Poltava was opened in 2006 near Poltava Music and Drama Theatre named after NV Gogol. Its authors have become well-known figures of culture and art of the city - sculptors Dmitry Korshunov and Valery Golub, the artist Anatoly Chernoshchyokov.
Monument is represented in the form of a young girl - the legendary poet of the 17th century Churai Maroussi, which is a symbol of Ukrainian folk songs. According to legend, Maroussia had unusually beautiful voice and talent.
There are many legends about her tragic fate. Ukrainian folk song "Oh do not go, Grits, is the second on vechornytsi", "Zasvіt got kozachenki", written by the legendary poet, has for many years remained the soul of the Ukrainian people.
