St Anna Cathedral in Bar

St Anna Cathedral in Bar

Church of St. Anne in the town of Bar - the best example of Gothic Revival in Ukraine. Built in the early 19th century, the Catholic Church remains one of the most vivid and memorable architectural structures. Sharp spikes, lush exterior with stucco relief and noble form - all this fits perfectly into the landscape of the old town.

The temple was built back in 1811. According to historical records, the church created the holy Dominicans, so popular among Western Catholics of the 18th century. For many years, this part of the Vinnitsa region was ruled by the Polish nobility, who managed to implant the Catholic faith on the land here, which explains the architectural style of the temple and other shrines Bar.

Church of St. Anne is really a storied history that dates back to the Middle Ages. It is believed that in the 1500s on the site was already a church, which was later increased and rebuilt. Presumably, the church could wear a different name - St. Nicholas. It has since been made a lot of changes in the internal structure of the temple and its appearance. Modern look it acquired in 1908. Today, the church is open to all parishioners.

Visitors can also visit the old Carmelite convent, founded in 1616, and see the remains of walls that are in the city park.
