Monument to Taras Shevchenko in Lviv
Take a walk along the cozy streets of Lviv, you will certainly notice the monument to Ukrainian genius, writer and poet Taras Shevchenko. Located in the heart of the city, it attracts the attention of impressive size.
Silhouette of the poet stands on the background of a 12-meter stele called the "wave of national liberation." This bronze figure with bas-reliefs discovered relatively recently - in 1996. A few years earlier, in 1992, was erected a monument to himself.
The history of its occurrence is not simple. The decision to perpetuate the Ukrainian genius took during the Soviet era. But the results of two national competitions for the best project did not give any results. And when the government decided on the views of the future of the monument, there was no funding. Therefore, a monument was erected on the funds that were collected by the Ukrainian diaspora.
Now the area near the monument - a favorite vacation spot of Lviv.
