Ypsilanti Estate

This house manor was built in the late 18th century by order of the commandant of the Kiev-Pechersk fortress.

Manor seemingly inconspicuous: the facade is made ​​in the traditional (for the Ukrainian capital) yellow and white, the sides are two wings. The house is a listed building and is a rare example of urban estate complex in the classical style - part of a closed courtyard with residential and utility rooms perimeter. The original building was made of wood and consists of 2 floors, but was later completed the 3rd floor.

Manor is known in Kiev as a house Ypsilanti, because from 1807 to 1816 years, it lived ruler of Wallachia and Moldova - Constantine Ypsilanti with his sons. He (Greek by origin) was not only a participant, but also the inspiration of the Greek liberation movement against the oppression of the Ottoman Empire. His life was admired Pushkin and French public figure de Lagarde, and Alexandre Dumas (when writing the novel "The Count of Monte Cristo") even used a few episodes from his life.

After the death of Ypsilanti in the house for some time lived his sons, and after it acquired the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra . In the years 1860-1870 are posted icon-painting workshop.

Today the building is located on the street of Ivan Mazepa, 6. On the ground floor is a cozy restaurant "Hanoi" serving Oriental cuisine.
