Exaltation of the Cross (Nadstavna) Church, Ternopil
On the dais Pidzamche, picturesque lake stands the oldest church in Ternopil - Exaltation of the Cross, known popularly as patched. First memory of it dates back to 1570 year. It was built on the orders of the founder of the city, Crown Hetman Tarnow.
The church has a long history, not once exposed to destruction. It is shrouded in many legends and tales. So visitors to the city still talk about the heroism of the old clerk, who managed to drive away from Ternopil Tatars by shooting at them with guns.
This temple, like the phoenix bird, not once rose from the ashes. It was repaired and reconstructed. Building, completed in the Renaissance style, has no domes. Nearby is the old bell tower, which was built back in 1627, the year.
The church is located near the train station in Ternopil - walking tour to the shrine will take only 15-20 minutes.
