In 1672, Turkish troops occupied   Kamenetz-Podolsk , but in 20 years the defenders of the city was decided to build earthen walls and fortresses.

Create fortifications was made ​​incredibly fast. Beginning in March, the autumn it was already completed. The fortress with towers erected on the chosen place according to the rules, there, overlooking the roofs of houses and churches in Kamenetz-Podolsk. After rising to the watchtower of the fortress, could be considered   Zhvanetskiy   and   Khotyn fortress , which made ​​it possible to transmit visual signals the approaching enemy. And after its foot, the eye catches the confluence of two rivers - the Dniester and Zbruch. The fortress was strengthened by two other shafts with massive stone walls and two rectangular gate, consisting of two layers. The first tier was an arched passage, the second were the defenses.

In 1699, the fortress lost its strategic importance. Next historically important period associated with the 1769 year, when fortification was captured by Russian troops. Later, it was used as a frontier.

Today the defensive structure is an island, which preserved gates, parts of the walls and earthworks.
