Chiesa. Dmitry Pechenizhyn

In the Carpathian region is home to one of the oldest settlements Hutsul - Pechenizhyn . His lands were inhabited as early as the Neolithic period and the Bronze Age, then, there lived tribes between Tripoli and culture of Kievan Rus. There is a legend that the name Pechenizhyn associated with the Pechenegs, who in 1036 defeated Yaroslav the Wise, and drove them to the foothills of the Carpathians.

In every culture the important role played by religious values. And the wooden churches of Ivano-Frankivsk - a unique samples of wooden building with extraordinary architecture and interiors with rare. There are three styles, according to which the Carpathian wooden churches were built, respectively the names of ethnic groups of Carpathian Ukrainians: Lemko, boykovsky and Hutsul. The latter style is characteristic of the surviving churches ages 16-20 in Ivano-Frankivsk. Temples Hutsul school tend to build one story, sometimes it was a tri- or five-level wooden church.

One of these is in Pechenizhyn - is the church of St. Demetrios,   built in 1629. Initially, there was a modest temple, which burned Tatars. In its place built a small chapel, and a little later it was attached to a large wooden church of St. Demetrios, which currently belongs to the UOC-KP. The main value in it are ancient religious tomes, as well as art and carved images. Next to the church is preserved diaconal school premises, erected in the late 18th century. She had a public church mission.

In 1873, the bulk of money pechenezhinskoy in honor of the 25th anniversary of the abolition of serfdom since here put memorial cross "Freedom". At the cemetery near the church are buried many famous people of the village.
