Church of St. Good

The temple, called the Church of St. Nicholas the Good, has a very long history. It is said that he stands at the hem since pre-Mongol period, although mention of it survived until the late 16th century. Around this time, the legendary Cossack Ataman Samiylo Gut helped restore a wooden church on the site of the old, burned down in 1555.

Where did the name Nicola Good, could not figure out. According to one version, at the church was a hospice, which helps the poor, the sick and the infirm. Due to good works, completed in the walls of the church, and it got its name. Another version indicates involvement in the fate of the temple in Kiev rich merchant by the name of Dobrik, which received a large ransom from the captive Polovtzy provided considerable financial support to the shrine.

During its existence, the wooden church burned twice, while in 1716 it is not built of stone. But by the end of the 18th century shrine fell into decline, which was caused by another large fire. Because of this church for a long time was in a catastrophic state, yet in the end, it did not understand. The new church arose only after 7 years. It was incredibly beautiful structure, designed in the style of classicism, with rich interior. It is in this temple was married the famous writer Mikhail Bulgakov, immediately after his mother`s funeral.

Unfortunately, today the Church of St. Nicholas the Good does not exist, it destroyed in 1935. However, special attention deserves the tower, which, despite all the troubles, miraculously survived. Many researchers have noted the uniqueness of this facility, attributing it to the baroque style with characteristic for Ukrainian interpretation elements.
