Monument Margelov VF

Monument to Vasily Filippovich Margelov installed in the central part of Dnepropetrovsk. It is easy to find on the streets of the city embankment near Moscow and Lenin. Sculpture upright with his back turned to the Dnieper River and facing the townspeople surrounded by neat lawns and flower beds. The monument was founded in 2000 to the 55th anniversary of the Great Victory.

Unique Margelov

A native of Dnepropetrovsk region Vasily Filippovich had deep roots in Belarus. Round-headed family Margelov (right sound Markelov), when there was little Vasya 10 years. He had the difficult fate of the working and peasant origin. We had to work on the farm, the mine, extract every penny toil. After working in 1925 in the forest farm was elected to the local council leaders. From this moment begins a career of the future hero.

Margelov differed lively mind and great stamina. During the war, he formed a great career commander. Being a middle-aged man, Margelov was educated and become a real ace of the business. After the Great Patriotic War with dozens of different awards, he was appointed commander of the airborne troops of the USSR.

Merit in Dnepropetrovsk

The decision to open the monument Margelov was made not just because he was a native of the city, but also because of the obvious merits of the commander at the time of the liberation of Dnepropetrovsk. While crossing the Dnieper in October 1943, he commanded the 49th Guards Rifle Division. In its composition, he participated in the liberation of southern provinces from the German invaders. In the city there is a monument to the events of that time, the factory opened on the waterfront.

Interesting Facts

Margelov VF is considered the ancestor of modern airborne troops. It was his leadership to make this kind of army service and the most prestigious in demand. About innovations Margelov wrote several books and manuals that explain in detail the strategy of tactics developed by an experienced General of the Army.
