Holy Temple of Kazan, Food

Holy Kazan church in the village of food - it is the oldest church in the area, which is referred to in the first archival documents in the journal "Klirovye statements Church Vladimir-Volyn district." It was recorded all the most important events of the village and the first creator of the magazine became a priest of the Holy Temple of Kazan, Father Joseph Ivashkevich.

He was rector of the church and the chronicler, the leading story of the development of the region since 1796. After him, the tradition continued the rest of the priests of the temple, but their work, unfortunately, have been lost as a consequence of a fire in 1954.

It is known that the church was built in the mid 18th century. It was a wooden structure, expanded in the early 19th century. At the time of the construction of the county near Food was no more than 500 people. But the temple was built by all the rules with a large prayer hall, cupolas, water source and high iconostasis.

St. Kazan Church endured a difficult history. He survived even during the First and Second World Wars and revolutions. During the religious persecution of the church continued its ministry to parishioners. When in the 1930s over the temple threatened by closure, parishioners came together and took the saving decision. They removed the metal dome to avoid being sent to be melted down for weapons and hid them in the bottom of the river that runs next to the temple. Once the threat has passed, in the middle of the 20th century dome successfully raised and returned to their former places.

After a disastrous fire in 1954, arose due to negligence, the church lost all archival documents, paintings and the iconostasis of the internal and the external appearance of the building suffered. Fr. John Gatskevich, conducted at the time of the fire service, first began to put out the fire, causing himself so many burns. After this incident, under his leadership it created a new exterior of the temple, painted all the details of the old building, changed the roof and landscaped courtyard.

The most important attraction of the temple is recognized as updated iconostasis - it has been replaced all the parts included gilding and painting with the theme of the Kazan Icon of the Holy.
