The sculpture-fountain of youth (children and the Frog)

The sculpture fountain "Youth" can rightly be called one of the most popular sculptures Odessa. This famous architectural masterpiece is easily recognizable in the archival photographs, newspapers and postcards.

How does the sculpture fountain "Youth"

Easy and simple plot of three kids playing with a frog, wonderfully captured the hearts of tens of spectators present at the Paris Salon of Arts in 1904. It is often called "The children and the Frog" or "Narcissus." Young sculptor Max Blond received several offers to purchase the product, and he used every one of them very original way by creating a replica (like a copy) sculpture, changing some details of decor. One of these copies of the talented master in 1905-1907 was in Odessa .

During the first years of his life in the city, presumably, sculpture fountain was installed in a private villa, with the advent of the Soviet period, it was moved to the square in front of the theater.

"The children and the Frog" today

Since 2008, the fountain was added to the list of monuments and sites of architectural heritage of Odessa. Sculpture has repeatedly suffered at the hands of vandals. Frog have not genuine, it does not once has replaced the stolen copy instead.

In our time, the fountain does not work, but the sculpture has acquired a special position with a separate fence of flowers and fence. Next take a look at the monument Gotsmanov staged in honor of the hero of the movie "Liquidation" of the events in postwar Odessa.
