Monument Elena Teliga

The monument to famous Ukrainian poet and cultural activist Helen Telizi in Kiev, established in August 2009. The monument is located in the square opposite the 12 building of the Kiev Polytechnic Institute. Choosing a place for the monument is not accidental because Elena`s father taught at the CPI, and during the occupation poet lived nearby and often walked in these places.

The history of the monument to Helen Telizi

Inauguration of the monument to Helen Telizi held on 31 August 2009. Part of the monument gathered students and teachers KPI, and some donated KPI graduate and philanthropist Dmitry Andrievsky. The author of the monument to Vladimir Rat is known in Kiev on this sculpture:

Hard life developed in the writer. She was the organizer and chairman of the Union of Ukrainian Writers Germans in occupied Kiev and editor of the literary and artistic supplement "timpani" newspaper "Ukrainian word".

In February 1942 Elena Teliha was arrested by the Gestapo along with 40 associates, with the OUN underground and shot at Babi Yar. On the 50th anniversary of the shooting in 1992 February 21 there established a cross in memory of her and other members of the OUN shot.

In 1993 the Kiev highway that closely adjacent to Babi Yar, named Helena Teligi Street.

There was a memorial plaque on the building of the sanatorium, where she lived with her family in the years 1922-1928.

How to get there

The monument is located on the street Polytechnique, 9/16 in the park "Glade", along with the CPI. Before the park can be reached by route number 411, 433, 442 and 820 or tram number 1 and 3, go to the station "Field".
