Latin Quarter, Kiev
Latin Quarter is called the territory adjacent to the body of the Kiev National University named after Taras Shevchenko. The title comes from the analogy of the famous names in the late 19th century quarter of the Sorbonne in Paris. In both cases, this "scientific town" populated by students, teachers and scientists. There are schools, museums and science centers.
History of the quarter began in 1842 when the opening of a new Red building of the University on the street, Vladimir. Gradually it began building adjacent territory, new streets. Over time, the area has grown to eight streets. Property owners apartments rented accommodation for students and teachers. While the payment of the room in the area cost the student a 10 rubles, which was quite acceptable. Quarter, like other "campuses", no different positive discipline - often young people rioted, noisy parties.
