Bile Lake

Bile Lake is located near the village of Rudka, Volodymyrets district, Rivne region. Bile Lake is translated from Ukrainian as White Lake. It is known as a healing and unique body of water – the hub of the hydrological complex, which combines forest and marsh areas. Its hydro-magnesium water with high content of glycerol is considered to be healing. And spectacular views around won’t leave indifferent any traveller.

Unique Bile Lake

Famous scientist Pavlo Tutkovs’kyi convinces of the fact, that the area where Bile Lake is located today, was an arena of the glacier during the greatest on the Earth Dniprovs’ke Glaciation. This fact caused rich soil on this territory and the only eskers in Rivne region. According to the scientist, here you can see unique plant relics of the Ice Age.

This lake of an oval shape and ten meters deep is located at 156.5 meters above sea level. Water in the lake is very clean, and its transparency reaches up to 2.5 meters. Here you can see beavers, muskrats. And on the shore you can find unique plants, including Merlin’s grass, listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. After all, it is the only lake in Ukraine with high content of glycerol in water, with healing properties. They say that when Ukraine was under Poland, a narrow-gauge railway was constructed to carry the miraculous water to Warsaw to treat Ms Pilsudski, a wife of the Polish king. Unusual water that heals wounds is also mentioned in the archives of the UPA partisan (the Ukrainian Insurgent Army).

Secret of Bile Lake

Also you might hear of a secret, concealed in the White Lake area. People say a village used to be here. But its people could not have fun and enjoy life, moreover, they didn’t go to church and didn’t believe in high feelings. Only a poor boy and a girl from a wealthy family have had secret dates on the lawn, which is today called by locals as "Love Island". One day an angel came down to the people and warned of danger that awaits them in case of disobedience to God, but the villagers did not believe. And the village disappeared under the powerful wave of water. Only two lovers have become white swans and every spring they return to their island, reminding people about the earthly pleasures of life. This romantic legend attracts tourists to the shore of the healing lake. You can get to this place from Rivne or Lutsk by minibus.
