The Uman Local History Museum

Uman History Museum

History museum dates back to 1906, when a local archaeologist and art historian Daniel founded the group Shcherbakivsky lovers of antiquity. Members of the circle gathered a considerable collection of antiquities, but the museum did not open failed. Up to November 1917 was officially opened "Museum of History Uman". Eventually he changed his name then the Socio-Historical Museum of Uman, Uman City District is a regional museum.

And the hardest period for the museum was the Second World War, when the museum was looted and lost paintings by Dutch, Polish and Spanish masters, many examples of valuable porcelain, archaeological finds, unique furniture and old during the Renaissance. Among other valuables disappeared Rembrandt paintings, furniture made in Gdansk in the 16th century.

Since 1944, the museum revives the activity. Since then up until today - a powerful scientific and educational center Uman, which continues to research and academic work.
