Church of St. Nicholas (Old Sambor)
Church of St. Nicholas, which is located in the town of Stary Sambor, has an ancient history. It is known that the Catholic parish in the city was founded in the 15th century and at the same time there was built a wooden church. Locals say the involvement of the temple of Queen Bona Sforza, which provided funds for the construction of a stone Gothic buildings instead of the old half-burnt-out buildings.
Undoubted is part of King Augustus III in the fate of the church of St. Nicholas. It`s about money participation. In 1753, with funding from generous autocrat building was renovated and consecrated under the title of St. Nicholas. However, a century later the temple fell into disrepair and was dismantled piece by piece. To build a new shrine fundraising took the Catholic community and already in 1890 the church rebuilt and re-consecrated.
Modern building in neo-Gothic style was built in 1903 by architect Yablonsky. However, World War II is not the best way affected the appearance of the temple. Most of the property has been taken out of the church - partly in Poland and partly in other cities of Ukraine. Since the 1940s, the church was closed and used as a warehouse, and only in 1991 Nicholas church was returned to the Catholic community of Old Sambora.
