The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Fastow

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross - one of the few historical monuments Fastova, the main center of Catholicism and spiritual life of the city. Three of the temple changed each other until the early 20th century in their place was built a modern cathedral. The first temple was built in the late 16th century, but destroyed by fire, the second suffered during Koliyivshchyna third cathedral became too small for a large Catholic community and was demolished.

The modern church was built by the architect Dombrowski in the period from 1903 to 1911, the year the city public money.   In the last year of construction, to collect the remaining amount, the organ installed in the church, held a charity concert. Within the walls of the temple sounded works by Bach and Schumann.

In Soviet times, the church was closed, but in the postwar period is operated Orthodox Church.   In 1989, with the active support of Valentina Tereshkova, the church was returned to Catholics Fastova and in 1990 the temple was consecrated again.

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross - a fine example of Gothic Revival.   The building is made of yellow brick. On the main facade has two towers, and the entrance to the church is seen   a large rose-window, a traditional element of Gothic churches.  

Now the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross - the main tourist site Fastova, its historical, cultural and architectural monument. One of the most unique places in the Kiev region.
