The central area of the city Vinogradov, who is in the Transcarpathian region, has long been a place of pilgrimage for believers and tourists. The reason for that - the oldest Franciscan Monastery, dating, according to restorers, 15th century.
As we know from history, the Franciscans were the Catholic monastic order founded St. Francis of Assisi, hence the name for members of the Order. The monks preached austerity, love of neighbor and almost abject poverty on the brink of poverty. In the 16th century the Transcarpathian region began to spread reform movement that led to the dissolution of the Order. However, this did not prevent the Franciscans back half a century later and restore the monastery and church, which in the early 18th century, were destroyed by the Tatars. In the future, the monastery was rebuilt in Soviet times (since 1945), the building housed a historical museum, a unique painting was destroyed, and the convent school was turned into a library.
The monastery is an architectural complex consisting of stone-brick church and two-storey house with cells. Originally a Gothic structure was located in a semicircle, forming thus a courtyard, but to date the building has not survived. After the Tatar raids, the monastery was rebuilt, but in a Baroque style with elements of classicism. Franciscan Monastery in Vinogradov - a unique architectural monument from his difficult fate, but is a unique place, where every year come the crowds.
