Korsun monastery Korsunka
With the support of Prince Potemkin built a monastery in the village Korsunka. Construction work lasted from 1784 to 1803 years.
Legend
In the future site of the sanctuary, the children found the icon of the Mother of God. When they wanted to raise it, the icon suddenly become so heavy that move it from the place it was impossible. So it was decided to build a temple on the site.
The history of the monastery
First Korsun monastery was starovirskym, and since 1848 the monastery was Orthodox. By this time the monastery had five churches, refectory and cells.
Near the monastery`s Cathedral of the Virgin rose 74-meter tower, which, they say, could see not only the surrounding area but Kherson. At the entrance to the cathedral stood a statue of St. Athanasius, and next - a box for donations.
North of the cathedral housed the monastery church of St. Michael and refectory, and on the south side - the church of St. Demetrios.
Around the monastery built an iron fence at the four corners of the tower is placed.
From the east gate road led pilgrims to a small cemetery, where they buried the patrons of the monastery. There was also a small church of All Saints.
The Soviet era regretted Korsunskiy ancient monastery. In the 30`s abode shut and transfer the balance of the farm, which is related to the reserve "Askania Nova." After World War II the premises of the monastery was in an orphanage, and since 1969 is located a rehabilitation camp for juvenile delinquents. The whole atmosphere of this institution described the Alexander Oles in his book "Brigantina".
What you can see
In 50 years in the monastery church Krsuntsi dismantled. To have survived only Church of St. Demetrius, St. Michael`s church, refectory and the remains of the fence. The monks returned to Korsun Monastery only in 1999 and on their own trying to rebuild their monastery.
How to get there
From Nova Kakhovka to Korsunka - 15 kilometers. You can take a bus or own car. Also walking bus from Kherson AS №2 (schedule check with bus controller).
