Church of the Nativity, Shostka
Church of the Nativity is considered the oldest building in Shostka . Since the beginning of its construction in 1779 the construction of the town was in full swing. In the construction of the church were invested money employees gunpowder factory, which was near, so sometimes called the church factory. It opened in 1785 built a belfry in 1809. At the same time expanded and the church itself. On the church square is now held various city celebrations: holiday services, ceremonial processions.
Since 1917 it was called the Church of the Nativity behalf of the Red Army. In 1928 it was closed and removed the dome. Also were burned icons and the whole church inventory. During the Great Patriotic War, when the German government was serving the church as long as the occupiers were not released. In the postwar years, there was a soldier`s club, and then there was a cinema.
In 1993, under the walls of the temple in the adjacent rooms was the first liturgy. The church was rebuilt and July 26, 2000 and consecrated by Bishop Konotopskiy Glukhovsky Innocent.
