Catherine mile Volosskoe

Road sign and historical monument installed on the route of travel, which went into Catherine II. During her trip to Crimea like road signs on the orders of Prince Potemkin had arranged all the way every 10 miles.

General information about the architectural sights

Ekaterina`s mile is a bottom of the column Tuscan order. Built of rough stone obelisk made quadrangular pyramid-shaped with a conical termination. I installed it on a rectangular pedestal. On one side is preserved a small round medallion. It is assumed that there was a corresponding inscription, which has not survived to the present day. The antiquity of this memo arouses keen interest not only passing tourists and locals. The attention of researchers and local historians draws the absence of any explanatory tables of this facility. It is assumed that Catherine mile - one of the first stone buildings of Ekaterinoslav, almost as old as the city`s founding on the right bank of the Dnieper in 1787. On the territory of the Dnipropetrovsk region, there are two obelisks. One - in the center of Dnepropetrovsk on October Square, the other - in the village Volosskoe.

Catherine Miles Location

On the outskirts of the village Volosskoe is one of the five remaining miles of Catherine. Partially ruined, overgrown with grass miles suggests that once there was a coach of the Catherine II.
