Ukrainian Artists to Guess a Riddle of the “Black Square”
On the occasion of the “Black Square” by Malevich creation centenary the “Mystetska Zbirka” Art Gallery will present a new group project “Inspired by Black Square”.
Kazimir Malevich is one of the most wretched and ambiguous artists in the history. During the hundred years the debates don’t die off regarding his most famous painting “Black Square”. Under the "Inspired by Black Square" Project the monitors, Maxim and Julia Voloshin, proposed the Ukrainian authors to find out what the "Square" is: a big gamble, philosophical category or brilliant discovery.
The project will show what impact this painting had over the hundred years on the arts, lifestyle and people’s outlook. Ukrainian artists will reconsider in their pieces the value and importance of the “Black Square”, try to guess a riddle of this mystical painting.
The "Inspired by Black Square" Project will feature paintings, installations, sculptures, photographs, interactive platform and even designer’s clothes of about 30 authors. Each piece will be accompanied by a text explanation – the author’s concept. As a result the audience will be able to learn more and understand the ideological and semantic load of the piece.
Julia Voloshyna, Project Monitor: Kazimir Malevich conceived the "Black Square" as a sign of the art’s finish, a painting, after which nothing can be created. In our project we will show another content of the “Square”. This painting not only destroys, but serves as a source of inspiration. After all, the finish is a beginning of something new
Maxim Voloshyn, Project Monitor: "Black Square" is called an icon of the XX century art. Our exhibition lifts the curtain on the painting’s mystery. “Inspired by Black Square” is both a research, and educational event as well. This is an answer to those who say "I can do the same” or "I do not understand".
The project involves both the well-known Ukrainian artists and young artists as well. The exhibition will feature works by O. Roitburdt, T. Silvash, O. Zhyvotkov, O. Dubovyk, M. Matsenko, L. Kozlov, Yu. Vakulenko, V. Khomenko, V. Shereshevsky, M. Deiak, B. Tomashevskyi, V. Deisun, V. Malyna, O.Zolotariov, ZOI Group, O. Selyshcheva, O. Shynkarenko, T. Borychok, M. Hromenko, L. Tomilin, V.
