Zakrevsky Pyramid
To see a pyramid, it’s not necessary to go to Egypt. On the territory of Ukraine in Poltava region, you will find the pyramid-tomb of the Zakrevsky dynasty erected according to all Egyptian customs.
The Ukrainian pyramid is located in the village of Berezova Rudka, not far from Zakrevsky Palace. In the mid-17th century, this estate welcomed Ukrainian elite. The palace was visited by such famous writers as Yevhen Hrebinka and Taras Shevchenko. People say that the famous Ukrainian artist and poet Taras Shevchenko was in love with Mrs Zakrevsky. And Yevhen Hrebinka created his famous masterpiece Dark Eyes in Zakrevsky Palace. Ignatius Zakrevsky was in the service of Tsar Alexander III as an ambassador of the Russian Empire. He was often on business trips in the country of the great pharaohs and brought from there various elements of interior. Also, he managed to get an ancient statue of the goddess Isis. Ignatius Zakrevsky placed the Egyptian sculpture at the entrance to their ancestral tomb.
In 1899, a 9-metre Zakrevsky Pyramid was built. Its owner had originally planned to combine two completely different cultures and religions in it. In former times, quotations from the Bible and Egyptian frescoes adorned walls of the pyramid. Tomb walls were made according to Egyptian traditions – sand-lime bricks were covered by layer of cement, so the walls became thick up to 30–35 centimetres. Inside the pyramid there was a pagan altar with a wooden cross, on which crucified Christ was depicted. An iron cross was installed on the top of the crypt. The Zakrevskys were buried in this pyramid.
In Soviet times, the pyramid was looted and destroyed. Almost nothing has been preserved from the time of its greatness. However, even now Zakrevsky Pyramid overgrown with moss and wild ivy keeps the secret of its creators. You will be able to see it on your own when you come to Poltava region.
Residents of Berezova Rudka say that the pyramid has healing properties. If you go inside, stand in the middle and say a prayer, you can be cured from all ailments.
To get to the village of Berezova Rudka, where Zakrevsky Pyramid is located, take the road Kyiv–Kharkiv. At 35 km turn left and you will see green gardens of the park-manor.
