Underground Museum of Partisan Glory

In 1969 Nerubayske catacombs located in the Odessa region, was created a unique Museum of Partisan Glory.
During the Great Patriotic War in the catacombs were stationed several large guerrilla units of the southern region. The most famous of them was a detachment, commanded by Vladimir Molodtcov Bad. This group consisted of 64 men and 5 women. But not only the adults fought heroically against the invaders, even children helped soldiers and were connected between the guerrillas and scouts.
In the catacombs of the whole camp was equipped with supplies of food and fuel, are also stored ammunition, weapons and explosives. Camp-site was chosen specifically with the help of local masons. All leading to the camp approaches have been carefully barricaded. On the territory of the dislocation guerrilla units were built in kitchen, dining room, sleeping room, sauna, various shops and staff rooms. For a long residence time in the dungeon, most partisans did not see sunlight as their forays they made only at night.
Today, the museum is a monument to all the heroes of the guerrilla movement in Odessa region. After all, 70 people who were active in intelligence and subversive activities, were buried alive in a dungeon and almost all there and died.
By visiting this museum, you can learn a lot of interesting stories about the exploits of the heroes of the liberation movement. The museum exposition consists of two parts: the surface and underground. Most of the exhibits at a depth of 12 14 meters . On the area, which occupies about 1 thousand square meters, are presented to the guests household items and unique pieces of weapons since World War II. On the walls of the dungeon still kept inscriptions left by the guerrillas, as well as cartoons, calling for the victory over the Nazis.
Ground part of the exhibition includes sculpture "People`s Avengers," which depicts the guerrillas, coming out of the catacombs on a combat mission. In the hall you will see photographs, letters, personal belongings and archival documents Odessa underground. One of the museum stands set up in honor of the famous tourists who visited this museum. Here, among other rarities stored carefully thank you letter written by Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
Since its opening, the museum has received immense popularity among travelers. In 1972 Nerubayske had over half a million people, and in 1980 the museum was named UNESCO`s most visited underground facility in the world.
