Church of St. Mark

Church of St. Mark

The village is located in Lviv region Varyazh Catholic Church of St. Mark. This monument of Ukrainian architecture erected in the early Baroque architect Wojciech Lenartovich in 1688-1893 years.

 

Initiated the construction of the church Polish industrialist Marco Matcha. He funded the construction of a brick church, decorated with side bunk towers. During a fire in 1796, the church suffered considerable damage. And after the restoration of the tower and its roof has become much smaller. Despite the fact that over the years, the church has lost its former beauty and chic, and it now it impresses with its grandeur and monumentality. Its two towers are baroque completion, they are decorated with patterned tiers attic. Side facade of the church is a stepped composition which is built in a special way, reinforcing the height and volume of the building.

 

Today, the church of St. Mark is not valid, but everyone can get in the middle. On the walls of the temple have survived fragments of frescoes made by Stanislav Stroinski in 1810. In the central part of the church you can see the basement, which survived a crypt where the burial place of notable people and politicians of the time. According to local legend of the church to the nearby hamlets can be reached by an underground passage.
