The Monument to St Andrew the Apostle

Andrew - the first disciple of Christ, the patron saint of Ukraine. Legend has it that he preached in the lands of Rus. Once, before reaching a mountain, he placed a cross and prophesied great glory the city which arises at this point. Later, there was formed the city of Kiev - Ukraine`s heart.
Monument in honor of the Apostle Andrew was erected in front of Askold`s Tomb , at the intersection of alleys and Krut Heroes Park road. The opening was timed to coincide with the 2000th anniversary of the birth of Christ and was held December 13, 2000. The main sponsor of the erection of the monument was made public charitable foundation named Andrew.
Andrew is depicted in full growth. Material - light gray granite. Also interesting pedestal of the monument - this lump of granite, which has an irregular shape and symbolizes the mountain from which the Apostle Andrew preached in Kiev. The height of the pedestal - 3.6 m, sculptures - 4 m.
In 2001, the area on which the monument was renamed the area named Andrew.
