The Ukrainian National Museum of Medicine

One of the largest museums in Ukraine is the National Museum of Health, created in 1973 in the former anatomical theater of Kiev Taras Shevchenko University. This building was designed by the talented architect Alexander Beretta.

To date, the museum has more than nineteen thousand various exhibits. Visitors have the opportunity to see the extant ancient medical instruments, all kinds of historical relics, medicinal plants used in folk medicine, chronicles, books and manuscripts known doctors, outstanding scientific work and the first medical textbooks. Considering the museum exhibitions, note the letter-figure firefighter - liquidators of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which was written in the hospital shortly before his death.

Exciting atmosphere captivate museum visitors literally at a glance. Original interiors complemented by portraits of famous scientists and physicians. A distinctive feature of the museum is a diorama commemorative events in Ukrainian medicine.

Strong enthusiasm is a diorama, which is dedicated to health care during the defense of Kiev in 1941. This unique structure consists of two levels: ground and underground. The first tier carries visitors to the site of the battle in the daytime. After that, the light darkens and the tourists are in a wooden dugout, where medics bandaged wounded soldiers.

Numerous museum rooms are equipped with a partition consisting of paintings and pivoting pylons. You certainly will be amazed by mobile walls and spectacular installations, hiding behind the curtain. Alive patients seem shapes and physicians formed from a mixture of silicon and plastic. All tours are accompanied by specially selected musical melodies.

Vintage steps which have to climb up and fall down, give the impression of a complete change in the surrounding space. Museum halls will take you to a different era. You can explore the exhibits representing Scythian medicine and healing medieval healers. There are items that have reached us from the time of collectivization and famine. Amaze tools used by doctors in the Great Patriotic War, as well as a reminder of the Chernobyl disaster.

Separately presented advances in modern medical science and works of famous domestic doctors Nikolai Amosov Shalimova Alexander, Nicholas Strazhesko. Painstaking scientific collecting work on creation of the National Museum of Medicine was awarded the 1983 State Prize of Ukraine.
