The Monument to Alexey Kelin
One of the main attractions of the center of Poltava is a monument to Colonel Alexei Kelin and the valiant defenders of the city. The monument was erected in 1909 in honor of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Poltava.
In 1709, Kaelin was the commandant of the fortress of Poltava during her defense during the Great Northern War. In memory of the heroic actions and the monument was erected, which was present at the opening of the Emperor Nicholas II.
Originally obelisk monument crowned with a bronze figure of the eagle, and on the pedestal is a bronze lion. Some time later, the eagle symbol of the Russian Empire was filmed.
