Basilian monastery (zolochev)

Basilian monastery, along with the Church of the Resurrection of the Lord and the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is the most beautiful sights Zolocheva.
Like most religious buildings in western Ukraine, near the monastery of the Order of Basilian Fathers was a hard fate.
Unfortunately, the exact date of construction of the monastery is unknown. The first mention of it appeared in 1567. In the 16th century the monastery was the largest religious building Zolocheva and the surrounding area.
But in this sanctuary status did not stay long. In 1665 it was completely destroyed by the Tatars.
The complete destruction of the monastery entailed a series of renovations. As a result of one of them - in the 19th century - the monastery acquired its present form. Executed in stone, construction steadfastly withstood the war and the years of Soviet rule. By the way, during the Soviet monastery complex served as a tuberculosis dispensary.
Today Basilian monastery is active monastery of St. Josaphat. It is located on the outskirts of Zolocheva. Its doors are always open to people of all faiths.
