Hubkiv Castle

On the rocky banks of the river can be seen the ruins of the once mighty castle. On the spot where formerly stood a huge solid wall, now dominated by native grasses. Between the ruins of the towers free wind is howling, destroying property boundaries. In the sky above the castle black birds soar. Their voices they fill the silence, as if mourning the former grandeur of the manor.

No, this is not a description of some remote castle in England or Germany. This Gubkovsky Castle on the banks of the event, which was built in the 15th century. After the destruction of the Tatars, was restored princes Semashko. At that time it was the most fortified building Volyn. Four corner towers, walls with battlements, the entrance gate and drawbridge formed a huge fortification system. It seemed as if these walls withstand any attack, safer places to be found. The castle was built to last.

Fate decreed otherwise. The destruction of the Tatars were not the last, followed by a few more. During the uprising Nalyvaiko (in 1596), Gubkovsky castle was captured by the Cossacks. During the Great Northern War the Russian troops destroyed part of the fortifications. The final blow to the castle was the attack of the Swedish troops in 1708. Then finally the castle was turned into ruins. Since it is not restored.

To the ruins of the castle many tourists flock. Many people come here to touch history, feel everything that happened here. To this day preserved parts of the walls and towers of the palace. Also survived the castle well. Access to the ruins is free.
