Museum of Folk and Decorative Arts, Kaniv

Museum in Kano - one of the largest museums of folk and decorative art in Ukraine. Its funds are presented household items and folk art three central areas: Kiev, Poltava and Cherkasy.

The museum is located in the center of the old part of Kanev, near the Cathedral of the Assumption . It was opened in 1972 and for a long time to receive visitors in the temple. After 28 years, the museum moved into the former Basilian school, which is to this day. It is noteworthy that the value is represented not only by its rich collections, but also the two-story stone building, which is an architectural monument of the 18th century.

Museum`s collection includes five thousand different items. Collected here are almost all kinds of folk art in Central Europe: clothing, embroidery, carpets, decorative painting, objects made of porcelain, ceramics and glass, and wood carving. The real pride are ceramics (Tripoli culture period) and household items (the period of Kievan Rus).

The museum exposition fully discloses generosity and wealth of the soul of the Ukrainian people. It houses an enviable collection of pottery, because Kanev from antiquity considered the pottery capital. Local craftsmen passed on their knowledge and traditions from parents to children.

The museum also presents products of modern masters: carvers, glassblowers and artists. In short, in every corner of a piece of history is stored Cherkassy region.
