Church of the Intercession, Zhuklya

Church of the Intercession in Zhukli is a real gem of an ancient land. Earlier in its place stood a wooden church, but the great fire ruined sanctuary. It tells the legend, the owner of the village residents promised to build a new church, which is not afraid of fire. And kept his word - since Zhukli flaunts a magnificent white stone temple.

Protection Church History

Intercession Church was built within 3 years from 1911 to 1914, the site of the burnt wood. Immediately after the fire, then owner Zhukli, General Nikolai Komstadius, commander Cuirassier Life Guards regiment, ordered a new project in St. Petersburg stone church in neorosiyskomu style. The church combines elements of architecture of ancient northern regions of Ukrainian compositional techniques. For its construction, he hired craftsmen capital. According to locals, the construction of the church took exactly one million bricks.

In the Soviet years the church has long been in disrepair, and therefore have almost completely lost the original painting the house. The iconostasis has not survived to this day.

Virgin Church can be called an architectural monument of national scale, such as her church in Ukraine will not survive.
