Cathedral of the Assumption, Mukachevo

Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Mukachevo   was built in the mid 19th century. Most of the population   Mukachevo then were Greek Catholics, while the power belonged to other denominations that has long been an obstacle to the emergence of the Uniate Church in the city.

Over time, the famous scientist Vasily Dovgach still achieved allocation of subsidies, which marked the beginning   reconstruction of the premises of the monastery under the unfinished church. In the late 50`s temple was built. With the advent of Soviet power the church conquered Moscow Orthodox Patriarchate, but after the dissolution of the Union, mutilated and plundered the temple was returned to the Greek Catholics.

Today, in the temple you can see the updated   particle of the Holy Cross, brought from Rome, a copy of the Shroud of Turin and a copy of the miraculous icon of the Blessed Virgin of Mukachevo.
