Nicholas Cathedral, Uman

In Uman is St. Nicholas Cathedral.   The monument was built in the 19th century.   Erected a temple on the initiative and with the money of citizens who gave the last ruble to thank God for the victory over the French invaders Napoleon Bonaparte. Place chosen for the construction of the best - the city center. Earlier in this place was a church, and before him was a fortress.

Soon the church deservedly gets the status of the cathedral and automatically becomes central to the whole county. When the church opened a school where they teach children and illiterate adults not only the word of God, but also the minimum reading and writing skills.

It takes a little more time, and the cathedral, erected in honor of St. Nicholas, changing its name to the Assumption. And then completely rebuilt so that it becomes like a cathedral   St. Vladimir in Kiev .

In the years of the USSR it is a museum of atheism. It was only with the independence of Ukraine, the cathedral is entitled to resume their activities.
