Church of the Intercession castle

A few kilometers from the village Yarmolyntsi, close to the highway Zhitomir - Chernivtsi, hid a small old building. This Church of the Intercession in the village Sutkivtsi.

According to various sources, the building was built in 15-17 centuries. Originally it served as a defensive purposes.

It is noteworthy that Pokrovsky castle is still considered an ideal of fortification architecture. Above it resembles a cross with towers on krayah.Dopolnitelno building is equipped with powerful apses and the top martial floor that allows you to see the enemy from afar and quality to protect the nearby villages.

At the end of the 15th century the castle was reoriented to perform religious problems. In 1476 the lower level facilities has been set aside for a church. A tower and the second floor and remained defensive. They say the church-fortress was connected by underground tunnels with Sutkovetskim lock .

This tandem temple served for more than 300 years. During this time the walls of the building was decorated with frescoes, and at the entrance to the belfry was built in the pseudo-Russian style. Time has not spared decor facilities. In the early 20th century Church of the Intercession completely lost its beauty.

The second life of the building began in 2009. Following the total reconstruction of the temple-castle turned into a museum. Also here to hold services. Today it is open to all comers. Every tourist can see with their own eyes the only Ukrainian church tetrakonhovogo type analogue which has only in France.
