Gear, Ivano-Frankivsk

In Ivano-Frankivsk it is one of the Potocki Palace, the area outside the walls of which is known to locals called "Vala". In the old days it housed the town`s fortifications in the fortress Stanislav.

The history of the shafts in Ivano-Frankivsk

During the construction of the master`s castle mound of earth was made in the form of huge trees. This was done with the aim to raise the construction of other buildings of the city. On the shafts 30 meters wide, towered two bastions, and surrounded by their tall oak walls. Location fortified bastions of the defenders of the castle made it possible to fire the enemy around the perimeter walls. In the mid-18th century, the old walls were demolished, and the new height of 10 meters, built of stone. Built Fortress successfully resisted the attacks of the Turkish army.

In the early 19th century, the wall was removed, and after a while, in 1876, is located in the liberated territory Square "Hetman shafts."
