Church of St Paraskeva, Kosmach

Wooden Churches of Ukraine - it`s amazing monuments of religious and cultural heritage of our people. This is the Greek-Catholic Church of Agia Paraskevi. It is located in the heart of the village of Kosmach .

According to local lore, in the construction of the church attended one of the national heroes - Olexa Dovbush. There is evidence that it is on its donations laity found the Greek Catholic Church, which was opened in 1753.

Like many other churches in Soviet times she went through a lot of hardship. In 1946 the church was placed under the leadership of the Russian Orthodox Church. At the request of many of its inhabitants, reworked into a museum of atheism, trying to preserve and renovate the building. Leaders of local councils did not give it any resources nor consent. The building of the church was taken iconostasis, which is familiar to many Ukrainians on the film "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors". This helped to keep it in the hard times. In 1983, the church was set on fire by unknown by burning it to the ground. In the early 1990s destroyed the church building came under the leadership of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. And already in 1995, was laid and blessed the first stone that will be the foundation of a new church. At the moment, located next to the new church of the Holy Trinity, who continued the spiritual welfare and traditions.

Unique church built without a single nail, could be lost for the laity, but gradually it is being revived. To date, the site of the old church was built picturesque chapel came the famous iconostasis, and thanks to the local community Hutsul question of reconstruction of the church will remain unresolved.
