Lutheran Church, Zmievka

One of the attractions of the village is Zmievka Lutheran Church belonging, from the time of the first settlers, the sole Ukrainian community of the Swedish Lutheran Church. Unique Lutheran community today watch over by representatives of the Swedish Embassy in Ukraine.

History of the church

The first wooden Kirche Swedes built a Prince Potemkin. In the 19th century during a fire burned down the church. A new stone church was consecrated in 1885.

After the beginning of religious persecution by the Soviet power August 1, 1929, taking away from the Church all that could take away, about a thousand people were able to return to Sweden. In their homeland, they created a chapel in honor of the native Zmievka. Every year on August 1, the anniversary of the return of the chapel bell ringing Zmievskoy in memory of Swedes living in Ukraine.

Zmievka village located on the banks of the Kakhovka reservoir near the district center Berislav . Before Zmievka with Berislav can be reached in 25 minutes by bus from Berislav bus or taxi.
