The geographical center of Ukraine, Dobrovelichkivka

The central geographical point of Ukraine is on the outskirts of the village Dobrovelichkivka in the territory of the district center Cossack Krynica. Define it for the first time succeeded in academics in Geography A. Shevchenko. There was an important event in 1989.

According to the official decision of the local district council in 1991 in this area have established a memorial of granite. These its geographical coordinates are as follows: 48 * 21 `north latitude and 31 * 10` east longitude.

After extensive scientific debate and controversy, August 24, 2002 established here stele. It is also made of granite, but, unlike the mark is large - about 3 meters. On the stele hanging metal plaque with an inscription and coat of arms of Ukraine. Stela itself is located on a pedestal in the shape of a square, which is also made of pieces of granite.

However, after the new mapping studies in 2005 it installed a new central point of Ukraine - the area is not far from the town of Cherkassy Shpola .
