Vydubitsky (Mikhailovsky) Monastery
Between the two hills of the Dnipro is located one and the most beautiful ensembles of Kiev - Vudubickiy. Over the period of this building was the center of religious life in the capital.
Interestingly, one of the largest temples conceived as a family church. Vudubickiy was erected in 1070 by Prince Vsevolod as thanks for the birth of his son. Later the temple became a family shrine of Vladimir Monomakh and his descendants.
In the 16-17th centuries the monastery was the necropolis for famous people.
Despite the large subsidies to the temple by the royal persons, the original form Vydubytsky monastery has not been preserved. Most of the buildings of the complex were built of wood, which explains their fragility. The exception was the only St. Michael`s Cathedral, pristine views that can be enjoyed today.
An important role in maintaining the appearance of Michael Church played numerous reconstruction. Most of them mutilated face of the church, a variety of elements ssvyatynyu Ukrainian Baroque.
By the way, the modern view of the church - is the property of the capital restoration of the 1980s. During the restoration of the walls were discovered unique images princely times and frescoes ages 18-19. Today to see these examples of ancient art can each visitor of the temple.
