Monument Kharitonenko
Monument to the famous Sumy entrepreneur, philanthropist and prominent Sugar IG Kharitonenko located in Sumy downtown.
Monument made in the neoclassical style and was built through donations of citizens. Its construction began October 1, 1899 by sculptor A. and A. Opekushin Croisy. The monument is surrounded by lights and lamps and sockets supporting fence decorated with coats of arms.
In 1918, the Bolsheviks destroyed the statue, and in its place was a monument to Lenin. Monument was decided to recreate the June 17, 1991. But the monument was restored only in 1996 by the sculptor A. Ivchenko. To date, the monument continues to remind residents and visitors to the city of his contemporaries and the initiator of the industrial revolution in Sumy.
