Gymnasium (Peduniversitet)

Gymnasium, and today Zhytomyr State University. Ivan Franko, is located in the town of Zhitomir . It opened, then a man`s grammar school in 1833 and is still considered one of the oldest educational institutions in the entire Right Bank Ukraine.

This educational institution has been very popular and well known for its traditions, sciences and teachers. The first building for it was a wooden room, which was the owner of B. Ghana. After his death, the building became the property of his wife Evelina Hanska. The one that wrote beautiful love letters O. de Balzac, known today around the world. Later, the wooden house was rebuilt on a more durable stone. It lasted until the male gymnasium in 1862. Then, for the institution, it was decided to build a separate building, which today serves as the main building for the university. Erected house was quite comfortable and can accommodate 17 classes for exercises. After the construction of the main body added two more to his two auxiliary wing. They served to accommodate the large library, and there was located a house for teachers of high school. On the territory of the institution was established garden, in which rare species of trees were planted in the center stood a fountain, and after high school was a beautiful garden.

The main building is completely preserved until today, its last renovation was carried out in 1919. It was from that time was opened Pedagogical Institute.
