Nicholas Church, KITAYGOROD

The village KITAYGOROD - one of the most interesting places of Dnipropetrovsk region. Above the village is a small mountain - Mount Kalitva. Contrary to the name, there lived Ukrainian population that has been formed since the founding of the village in 1667. KITAYGOROD rich in architectural monuments, attracts tourists and lovers of architecture of national importance. The most interesting of all is the St. Nicholas Church rotunda.

Architecture Nicholas Church

Temple rotunda built in 1757, is the single most early example tetrakonhovogo odnobashennogo temple constructed in the Baroque style. The top of the church is a hemispherical dome on a high drum solid, topped with a cupola. In this drum, on the walls and vaults are still preserved 18th century art of painting, sometimes emerges even earlier painting. The surface of the walls are decorated with pilasters, framed windows with decorative frames.

The history of the construction of the temple

During an appearance at the fortifications Duke Vytautas centurion Pavel Semenov built a unique temple complex, which had no analogues in Ukraine. It is composed of Nicholas Church rotunda. Since then, all three churches are well preserved, the centurion himself was buried in the Church of the Assumption, which also joined the ranks erected them. Some sources claim that the temples were consecrated Metropolitan of Kiev Mohyla Arseny.
