Tikhvin Monastery, Dnepropetrovsk

Tikhvin Monastery, Dnepropetrovsk

St. Tikhvin monastery in Dnepropetrovsk is a functioning church complex with several hermitages and church Sunday school. The temple was built according to the canons of Christian holy sites, is away from the busy streets of the city and on a deserted hill. Now Tikhvin monastery - is geographically central part of large Dnepropetrovsk .

History of creation

St. Tikhvin monastery has an unusual history of occurrence. Its roots come from the mid-19th century, when merchants Yekaterinoslav drew attention to one of the wandering novices. Elderly Feofania dedicated her life to Christianity, traveling to the Russian empire and helping in every way different need (the sick, orphans, maimed). In 1860 she stopped in Ekaterinoslav, to cure the sick girl, what drew the attention of the townspeople. Such a frank denial caused great sympathy from the merchants of the city, they have voiced the desire to create a convent for the education of women with Christian qualities. In 1866, it was purchased by 90 acres of land with existing outbuildings for the nunnery. The acquired land is a well-groomed villa with different gardens, green hills and a piece of wood. In our time, these lands have changed significantly: some land was distributed in the Soviet period for private construction, and some - a refurbished modern monastery complex (in the 1990s).

Relics of the monastery

The most important shrine is recognized as the Tikhvin icon of the Mother of God, which was brought from Ekaterinoslav Tikhvin monastery in 1866 to the founding of the nunnery. She was kept there until the early 1900s, the monastery has not yet been closed, as well as dozens of other religious institutions in the city. She laid up at home Gennady nun, which was later appointed chief nun. In addition, the monastery were transferred episodes relics of St. Andrew, a gift to the next anniversary of the monastery.
